A landslide in Goa's Anmod Ghat section disrupted vehicular traffic between the state and neighboring Karnataka early Thursday morning. The incident followed continuous heavy rainfall in the region, according to the police.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an 'orange alert' for Goa, predicting further heavy rains in the next 24 hours. Both North and South Goa districts have recorded substantial rainfall, with Ponda taluka in South Goa receiving the highest at 190 mm.
The landslide, occurring near Dudhsagar Temple at Anmod Ghat, led to the blocking of crucial routes to Belgaum and Khanapur in Karnataka. Despite efforts by fire and emergency personnel, clearing the debris was not possible by morning, causing significant travel delays.
The IMD also warned of high waves along the North Goa coast and advised against small vessel operations and nearshore recreational activities.
