Two Bills Aim to Streamline Regulation and Boost Business Efficiency

Economic Development Minister Melissa Lee has announced that two significant bills aimed at improving regulation and enhancing business operations have passed their first reading in Parliament. The Regulatory Systems (Economic Development) Amendment Bill and the Regulatory Systems (Immigration and Workforce) Amendment Bill are designed to introduce key changes to legislation managed by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment.

Minister Lee emphasized that these bills are part of the Government's broader strategy to cut red tape, eliminate obstacles, and reduce unnecessary bureaucracy as a means to rebuild the economy.

"Many of the changes in these bills are small, but together they collectively remove countless hours spent on paperwork and barriers to success," said Lee.

The bills focus on updating legislation to align with evolving information and technology. They aim to reduce compliance burdens, clarify ambiguous provisions, and eliminate redundant elements. The sectors affected include commerce and consumer affairs, science, innovation and technology, media and communications, justice, immigration, workplace relations and safety, and energy.

Lee highlighted that addressing legislative and regulatory issues that hinder business and economic growth is a key component of improving public services. "Fixing problems in legislation and regulation is how this Government ensures better public services and supports a more efficient economy," she added.
