PM Modi Initiates Construction of World's Highest Tunnel

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the construction of the Shinkun La tunnel, a 4.1-kilometre twin-tube structure designed to offer all-weather connectivity between Himachal Pradesh and Ladakh. The tunnel, set to become the highest in the world, is expected to enhance both military logistics and local economic growth.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has initiated the construction of the Shinkun La tunnel, aimed at ensuring all-weather connectivity between Himachal Pradesh and the Union Territory of Ladakh. The 'first blast' to mark the start of this monumental project was carried out remotely from Ladakh's Drass, setting the stage for what is to become the highest tunnel in the world.

The project includes constructing a 4.1-kilometre twin-tube tunnel at approximately 15,800 feet on the Nimu-Padum-Darcha Road. This initiative aims to ensure swift and efficient movement of armed forces and equipment, and is expected to significantly foster economic and social development in Ladakh.

According to officials, once completed, this engineering marvel will provide a crucial strategic advantage while also enabling year-round connectivity to Leh, thereby catalyzing the region's growth prospects.
