Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has officially partnered with the Maharashtra government to manufacture electric and hybrid cars, a move lauded by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde as transformative for the state's automobile sector.

The MoU, signed at Mumbai's Sahyadri Guest House, marks the beginning of plans to establish a greenfield manufacturing facility in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, TKM announced.

According to Shinde, the project aims to produce 4 lakh electric and hybrid cars annually, requiring a Rs 20,000 crore investment and creating 8,000 direct jobs plus 8,000 indirect employment opportunities. Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis emphasized the project's role in developing Marathwada and allotted 850 acres at AURIC for the facility.
