Sikkim Government Enforces Mandatory Pollution Certificates for Vehicles

The Sikkim government has mandated that vehicle owners carry a Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate. Failure to produce the certificate will result in a fine of Rs 500, with further penalties up to Rs 10,000 if not produced within 15 days. Vehicles exceeding emission limits will be impounded.

The Sikkim government has introduced a new mandate, requiring vehicle owners to carry a Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate at all times.

If a vehicle owner fails to produce the PUC certificate, they will face a penalty of Rs 500, according to a circular issued by the Transport department. Transport Secretary Manish Pradhan confirmed that non-compliance would result in an immediate fine.

The circular also stated that owners must present a valid PUC certificate within 15 days of receiving a challan. Failing to do so will incur an additional fine of Rs 10,000. Furthermore, vehicles failing pollution tests at authorized centers will be impounded and subjected to the maximum penalty.
