GAIL (India) Limited and Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RRVUNL) have signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to optimize the operations of RRVUNL's gas-based power plants in Rajasthan, according to a company statement. This agreement aims to explore the possibility of transferring RRVUNL's gas-based power plants in Dholpur and Ramgarh to a proposed Joint Venture Company (JVC) between the two entities.

Besides optimizing these plants, the partnership focuses on setting up approximately 1,000 MW of solar and wind projects on suitable land parcels across Rajasthan. This initiative is set to provide opportunities for Round the Clock (RTC) power supply, ensuring consistent energy availability in the state, the statement added.

As part of the agreement, both parties will conduct detailed due diligence and feasibility studies to determine the techno-commercial viability of each project before forming the JVC. GAIL, a Maharatna Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, is India's leading natural gas transmission and distribution company, with a 1,090 km natural gas pipeline network in Rajasthan. Additionally, GAIL supports the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in Rajasthan by supplying polymers for HDPE pipes, ensuring tap water supply to rural households. RRVUNL, responsible for developing and operating power projects in Rajasthan, continues to seek opportunities to meet the state's growing energy demands.
