Amazon India Sets Up Strategic Hubs for Disaster Relief
Amazon India has established four disaster relief hubs across the country to deliver urgent relief materials within 24 hours. These hubs, strategically located in Maharashtra, Haryana, Telangana, and West Bengal, aim to support communities affected by natural disasters, leveraging Amazon's logistical network and collaborative approach with non-profit partners.
E-commerce titan Amazon India has launched four hubs, including a temporary one in West Bengal, to expedite the delivery of urgent relief materials within a day as part of its disaster management strategy.
Strategically positioned in Thane (Maharashtra), Faridabad (Haryana), Hyderabad (Telangana), and Purba Bardhaman (West Bengal), these facilities will help Amazon swiftly mobilize resources and support communities hit by natural disasters like floods, cyclones, and cold waves.
The strategic locations, chosen for network optimization by a team of Amazon transportation experts, come in response to widespread flooding caused by heavy monsoon rains. ''Our disaster relief efforts leverage our expansive logistics network, warehousing expertise, and collaboration with non-profits and volunteers,'' said Anita Kumar, Head of Amazon Community Impact, India and APAC.
As part of its ongoing relief efforts, Amazon has distributed 10,890 shelter kits to over 10,000 families across 34 districts. By August 1, the company had committed 18,200 relief kits, utilizing 45% of its pre-stocked supplies in response to severe flooding in southwest and northeast India and recent landslides in Kerala, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
This proactive strategy allows Amazon to respond within 72 hours of requests from grassroots partners, non-profits, and state disaster management authorities.
