Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena and Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot laid the foundation stone for what is touted to be the country's largest electric bus depot in Vasant Vihar on Tuesday.
The mammoth facility, costing an estimated Rs 409 crore, will encompass an area of 7.6 lakh square feet and is expected to be operational in the next two years. Officials stated that the depot will house 434 buses and will feature dedicated parking for 220 cars and 200 two-wheelers.
Addressing a press conference, Gahlot announced that the depot will be a zero-discharge facility equipped with EV charging stations, 16 maintenance pits, and solar panels with a capacity of 112 MW. A water treatment plant will ensure waste water is reused for cleaning buses. Similar projects are slated for other locations in Delhi, promising substantial revenue generation.
