Sri Lanka Seeks Economic Revival through Strong Ties with India and Japan

Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe has stressed the critical need for strengthening economic cooperation and regional integration with Japan and India. Virtually addressing the Head of State Session at the 3rd Voice of Global South Summit, President Wickremesinghe highlighted the strategic importance of deepening relations with New Delhi as Sri Lanka seeks to recover from bankruptcy.
The summit, chaired by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, gathered heads of state to discuss mutual goals. Reflecting on Indo-Sri Lankan relations, Wickremesinghe underscored the foundational 'vision' statement shared by the two countries, celebrating their historical ties and forecasting future collaboration.
He also expressed gratitude to India for its support during Sri Lanka's economic crisis. Looking towards the future, the President emphasized the potential for stronger regional integration across multiple sectors through initiatives such as BIMSTEC, and the forthcoming Comprehensive Economic and Technological Agreement with India.
