UN Allocates $100 Million for Humanitarian Crises in 10 Countries
The United Nations has allocated $100 million from the Central Emergency Response Fund for urgent humanitarian needs in 10 countries across Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and the Caribbean. This is the second such release this year, underscoring a significant gap between growing humanitarian needs and available donor funding.
The United Nations has released $100 million to address urgent humanitarian emergencies in 10 countries spanning Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and the Caribbean, announced on Friday.
Joyce Msuya, the acting UN humanitarian chief, emphasized that a dire lack of funding is hampering aid agencies' efforts to provide critical assistance, calling the situation 'heart-wrenching.'
A substantial portion of this funding from the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) will be directed to Yemen, grappling with a decade-long civil war, and Ethiopia, facing multiple insurgencies. Yemen will receive $20 million, and Ethiopia $15 million.
