Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Rajiv Ranjan Singh, is slated to lead the upcoming Monsoon Meet for the Animal Husbandry and Dairy Sector on September 13 at the Convention Center in Lok Seva Bhavan, Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The event, organized by the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, with Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida serving as the Special Guest.
The gathering will serve as a platform to review the progress of various schemes and to solicit input from States and UTs aimed at creating a framework for more efficient program implementation at the grassroots level. The meet will also discuss potential adjustments to existing policies. Animal Husbandry Ministers from across the country, along with senior department officials, are expected to be in attendance.
Since the fiscal year 2014-15, the livestock sector has grown significantly, with a compound annual growth rate of 9.82%. Its contribution to the Gross Value Added (GVA) in agriculture and allied sectors has risen from 24.36% to 30.22%. India's milk production has increased by 57.62% over the past nine years, reaching 230.60 million metric tonnes in 2022-23.
The sector's annual growth rate of 5.9% outpaces the global average of 2%, with per capita milk availability increasing from 307 grams per day in 2013-14 to 459 grams per day in 2022-23. These milestones establish the livestock sector as a 'sunrise sector' crucial to the economy. The Monsoon Meet intends to tackle various implementation challenges and promote the exchange of best practices among States.
An interactive session with the Union Cabinet Minister and Animal Husbandry Ministers from States and UTs will facilitate the sharing of success stories and learning opportunities. Key announcements and activities related to the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying's '100 Days Action Plan' are anticipated during the event.
