Chairman of the Railway Board, Satish Kumar, has directed all 17 railway zones to monitor data logger reports daily to avert train collisions. This crucial step follows incidents where safety breaches were overlooked, leading to accidents.
The data logger, installed at stations, captures real-time data on train operations and signalling. It issues exception reports when station masters do not ensure a safe track for incoming trains. Recent collisions in Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal highlighted the importance of this monitoring, revealing lapses in adherence to safety norms.
In a letter dated September 13, Kumar emphasized that Divisional Railway Managers must review these reports, with random checks conducted by the Railway Board. Ensuring strict compliance with General Rule 3.38(2), this measure aims to bolster operational safety and prevent future accidents.
