Australia has expressed its discontent regarding what it described as "unsafe and unprofessional" behavior by a Chinese fighter jet in the South China Sea. The incident occurred when a PLA J-16 fighter allegedly released flares perilously close to an RAAF P-8A Poseidon patrol aircraft.

Australian Defence Minister Richard Marles confirmed the event during a TV interview, noting that representations had been made both in Canberra and Beijing. Marles emphasized the need for actions in international waters to remain within the boundaries of professionalism and safety.

The episode underscores ongoing maritime and aerial tensions in the region. In recent years, similar encounters have strained diplomatic relations, with Australia advocating for adherence to international navigation and overflight rights amidst such confrontations.
