Convicted of conspiracy to commit money laundering, Vinnik arrived home on a U.S. plane, making brief stops in Poland, contrary to initial reports of Turkey. He expressed thanks to Russian diplomats and special services, acknowledging their role in his release.
Leonid Slutsky of the State Duma hailed the event as a diplomatic victory for Russia. Unlike previous occasions, Vinnik's return was subdued, marking it as another success in Russian foreign affairs.
