Security Overhaul Ordered After Pune Bus Station Assault

Maharashtra's Transport Minister, Pratap Sarnaik, has mandated a thorough security audit of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) facilities after a woman was allegedly raped aboard a parked bus in Pune. The horror incident underscores systemic vulnerabilities in depot security.

Sarnaik announced new safety measures at a press conference, including installing CCTV cameras, GPS, and panic buttons on 15,000 state transport buses. The minister stressed the necessity of appointing an IPS officer to strengthen vigilance and emphasized rectifying any shortcomings found in the audit.

Following the crime, identified suspect Dattatray Ramdas Gade, a known repeat offender, remains at large. Sarnaik assured commuters that security would be intensified, with extra efforts to increase both the quantity and proportion of female guards. The government aims to restore public confidence in the transport system with swift and decisive actions.
