Heightened Surveillance at Agartala Airport Amid Security Concerns

The Agartala airport authorities have requested BSF to enhance surveillance around the facility due to its proximity to the Bangladesh border. The airport security is primarily managed by CISF, with assistance from state police. This decision follows security concerns after recent terror events.

Security has been ramped up at Agartala's Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport, which lies merely 1.5 km from the Bangladesh border. Airport authorities have asked the Border Security Force (BSF) to intensify surveillance in response to recent regional security threats.

Currently, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) oversees the airport’s security, supported by the state police. The airport, a critical hub in the northeastern region, sees a daily footfall of approximately 4,000 passengers.

A meeting with stakeholders culminated in a decision to increase BSF vigilance outside the airport promptly. The move comes in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack and subsequent Indian military actions in Pakistan-occupied territories.
