India's Mining Sector: A Surge in Iron Ore Production
India's iron ore production increased by 0.6% to 53 million metric tonnes in April-May, alongside a rise in manganese ore, bauxite, and zinc concentrate. Aluminium and copper production also saw notable increases, reflecting strong demand in the steel, energy, and construction industries, and indicating robust economic activity.

India's iron ore production recorded a 0.6% increase, reaching 53 million metric tonnes in the April-May period of the current fiscal year, according to provisional data.
The mines ministry also reported growth in the output of manganese ore, bauxite, and zinc concentrate. Additionally, primary aluminium production rose by 1.3% to 7.07 lakh tonnes, while refined copper production surged by 43.5% compared to the same period last year.
This trend underscores India's status as a major player in the global mining sector, being the world's second-largest aluminium producer and among the top ten in refined copper production. The robust performance points to continued demand in key industries such as steel, energy, infrastructure, and automotive, highlighting strong economic activity.
