India's Seafood Export Growth Stalls Amid Shrinking Volumes

India's seafood exports remained flat at USD 7.45 billion in 2024-25 despite a fall in shipment volumes to 16,98,170 tonnes. Frozen shrimp emerged as the leading export, with the US and China being the primary importers. The top ports for seafood cargo were Vizag and JNPT.

In a recent disclosure by the commerce ministry, India's seafood exports plateaued at USD 7.45 billion for the fiscal year 2024-25, showing no monetary growth despite a noticeable decrease in shipment volumes.

The ministry reports indicate that frozen shrimp remained India's primary seafood export, contributing a significant proportion to both quantity and value. The United States and China were highlighted as the largest importers, reinforcing their positions in previous years.

With major seafood cargoes being processed through the Vizag and JNPT ports, the export ledger showed notable financial engagements with regions like the European Union, Southeast Asia, Japan, and the Middle East.
