In a revealing analysis, Emkay Global Financial Services has highlighted a looming stagnation in India's traditional two-wheeler market, attributed to burgeoning growth in the electric two-wheeler segment. The report suggests that the conventional internal combustion engine model will face subdued growth, compounded by market saturation and policy normalization impacts.
Following a temporary demand surge prompted by a GST cut, the outlook for two-wheeler sales appears dim as the segment reaches a saturation point. Emkay forecasts a stagnant 3% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) for the sector from FY26 through FY35, aligning with a significant consumer shift toward electric two-wheelers.
The report also indicates that this consumer pivot is a reflection of increasing affordability, bolstered by declining battery prices and supportive governmental policies, such as FAME-II subsidies. As electric vehicle technology continues to inspire consumer confidence, industry forces, including product expansions and improved infrastructure, are poised to accelerate this transformative phase.
