A container ship docked at a Los Angeles port caught fire Friday night, prompting dozens of firefighters to respond. The blaze began below deck, involving hazardous materials and has resulted in an explosion, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
All 23 crew members aboard the 1,102-foot-long vessel, One Henry Hudson, were accounted for, and no injuries were reported. The rising smoke and potential threats required more than 100 firefighters to work in tandem, overseen by Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, who remarked on ongoing air quality monitoring efforts.
Operated by the Singapore-based One Ocean Express, the ship had visited several Japanese ports before arriving in Los Angeles, the busiest port in North America. The company has not responded to inquiries for comment on the incident.
