Moldova's Airspace: Russian Drones Stir Tensions
Moldovan authorities reported Russian drones entering their airspace, marking the third such incident in nine days. This event aligns with a significant Russian assault on Ukraine. President Maia Sandu, advocating for EU integration by 2030, condemned Russia's actions and described them as attempts to destabilize Moldova.
Moldova's government has raised alarms following incursions by Russian drones into its airspace, the third such event within nine days. Moldovan President Maia Sandu, a proponent of European Union membership by 2030, criticized Russia for its military actions and accused Moscow of intentionally destabilizing the country.
These developments occurred alongside a large-scale Russian attack on Ukrainian cities, which resulted in multiple casualties, including three deaths and around 30 injuries in Kyiv. Moldova's closure of its airspace was instituted following the detection of two Russian drones, emphasizing the potential risks to civilian flights.
With tensions escalating, Russia's ambassador to Moldova has been frequently called into the foreign ministry. President Sandu has publicly condemned the repeated airspace violations, framing them as intimidation linked to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
