Eighty-five IndiGo flights were canceled in Madhya Pradesh, causing distress among passengers. The disruptions occurred at multiple airports, including Indore, Bhopal, and Jabalpur, due to unpreparedness for new pilot regulations. On Friday, significant travel disruptions hit Madhya Pradesh as 85 IndiGo flights were abruptly canceled, sending thousands of travelers into a state of inconvenience, according to local officials.
These disruptions affected several airports, notably Indore's Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar, a prime hub in the state. Director Sunil Maggirwar reported 49 scheduled movements being impacted, with 25 departures and 24 arrivals canceled. Bhopal's Raja Bhoj airport director, Ramji Awasthi, noted that 18 out of 28 IndiGo flights were canceled, affecting passenger plans significantly. Similar scenes unfolded in Jabalpur and Khajuraho, with further cancellations causing travel chaos.
Passenger frustration mounted due to the lack of alternative arrangements, exacerbated by a broader nationwide issue. IndiGo, a major player in India's domestic air travel sector operating nearly two-thirds of flights, did not account for new pilot flying-time regulations, leading to the crisis. CEO Pieter Elbers has since announced efforts to reduce cancellations, aiming for operational normalcy between December 10-15.
