The International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, has announced its participation in a landmark US$400 million joint financing package to support Camposol, one of Peru’s largest and most influential agro-exporters. The investment marks IFC’s first agribusiness sector transaction in over two decades, signaling renewed confidence in Peru’s potential to lead sustainable agricultural innovation across Latin America.

The financing aims to strengthen Peru’s agribusiness competitiveness, expand formal employment, and enhance climate resilience in a sector increasingly vulnerable to water scarcity, extreme weather, and global market fluctuations.

IFC’s Role and Co-Financing Partners

IFC’s structured investment totals US$140 million, comprising:

  • US$100 million from IFC’s own account

  • US$40 million mobilized from Rabobank

The remaining funds are provided by IDB Invest, Scotiabank, and BBVA, creating a blended financing package that leverages development finance and commercial capital to drive long-term sustainability in Peru’s rural economy.

Supporting Innovation in Blueberry Production

A major pillar of the investment is Camposol’s blueberry varietal renewal program, which incorporates locally developed proprietary genetics. The program focuses on replacing older, less efficient varieties with next-generation crops that offer:

  • Higher yields

  • Increased pest and disease resistance

  • Improved water-use efficiency

  • Better adaptability to climate stressors

Given Peru’s growing challenges with water availability, the introduction of water-efficient blueberry varieties aligns directly with IFC’s priority of reducing climate and resource risks in global agriculture.

Boosting Avocado Productivity and Market Competitiveness

Beyond blueberries, the financing will support improvements in avocado production, one of Peru’s most important export crops. The adoption of new irrigation systems, soil monitoring technologies, and sustainable farming practices is expected to strengthen Camposol’s competitive position in international markets.

Overall, the company projects that export volumes will grow by more than 30% between 2025 and 2030, supported by increased yields, expanded cultivated areas, and higher-value crop varieties.

Strengthening Rural Employment and Women’s Economic Participation

IFC Country Manager for Peru and Ecuador Matilde Bordón emphasized the transformative impact of the collaboration: “IFC’s participation in this historic financing is a clear endorsement of Peru’s agribusiness as a driver of sustainable and inclusive growth. By supporting Camposol in creating formal jobs and transitioning to more resilient technologies, we are directly investing in the long-term prosperity of Peru’s rural communities.”

Camposol expects to generate more than 2,500 direct jobs through this investment cycle, with women’s participation exceeding the national agricultural sector average. Improved employment opportunities—particularly for women—are projected to contribute to greater income security and local development in farming regions.

Environmental and Social Safeguards to Guide Implementation

The financing package includes strict conditions requiring Camposol to execute a comprehensive Environmental and Social Action Plan (ESAP). Key commitments include:

  • Strengthening water resource management

  • Conducting advanced biodiversity impact assessments

  • Preventing workplace heat stress amid rising temperatures

  • Securing internationally recognized sustainable agriculture certifications

These safeguards ensure that expansion efforts align with global best practices and support Peru’s transition to climate-resilient production systems.

Toward a More Sustainable and Competitive Agribusiness Future

By enabling cutting-edge agricultural innovation, boosting productivity, and expanding quality employment, the IFC-led financing partnership is poised to enhance Peru’s role as a leading exporter of premium fruit to North American, European, and Asian markets.

With rising global demand for sustainably produced food, the investment positions Camposol—and Peru’s broader agribusiness sector—for long-term growth while embedding environmental stewardship and social inclusion at the core of agricultural expansion.
