Ethanol-blended petrol, a cornerstone in India's green transition, has immensely benefitted both farmers and the economy, according to recent discussions in the Lok Sabha. The initiative has led to foreign exchange savings exceeding Rs 1.40 lakh crore.
Despite initial concerns, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari assured that rigorous testing found no adverse effects on vehicles using E-20 petrol, categorizing it as a cleaner fuel option. The approach is not only environmentally friendly but also economically advantageous.
Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri highlighted that the funds previously spent on crude oil imports are now redirected to farmers for their ethanol-producing resources like sugarcane and maize, transforming them into 'Urjadaatas'.
