Flight operations were severely affected at Delhi airport on Tuesday as low visibility caused by dense fog led to the cancellation of 131 flights. Airlines were compelled to cancel 52 departures and 79 arrivals, causing significant inconvenience to travelers.
The persistent fog in northern India, especially in Delhi, which serves as a major hub, has had a cascading impact on airline schedules across the network, particularly for major carriers like Air India and IndiGo. This seasonal phenomenon, recognized by the aviation regulator DGCA, affects flights from December 10 through to February 10.
IndiGo, struggling under the weather-induced crisis, canceled 113 flights across its network on Tuesday and declared an additional 42 cancellations for the following day. The airline emphasized their preparedness to minimize passenger inconvenience, adhering to fog operation norms involving crew and equipment trained for low-visibility conditions.
