The Delhi High Court on Wednesday demanded clarity from the state government on measures adopted to ensure compliance with a 2023 notification setting fare limits for auto rickshaw and taxi drivers in the capital.
Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela convened a bench seeking details on enforcement, including the number of violations recorded. The Transport Department and police officials are ordered to file status reports highlighting their operational procedures and actions taken so far.
The plea, presented by lawyer Anil Nimesh, raised alarms over non-compliance by drivers and excessive charges levied through third-party ride apps, surpassing government-set fares. Regulatory bodies are urged to implement stricter measures and publicize penalties for fare violations.
