The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) plans to implement solar highway lighting across 104 identified accident-prone and blackspot locations in the Vijayawada region. The project emerges from a competitive bidding process, with Lord's Mark Industries Limited, in collaboration with Signify Innovations India Limited, securing the contract to handle survey, design, and implementation tasks.

This initiative represents a pioneering move in road safety, combining technology with data-driven research. The project uses advanced accident analytics and solar lighting designs to address visibility challenges, such as glare and contrast loss, aiming to reduce accidents at known blackspots. Unlike typical illumination projects, this solution focuses on engineering visibility outcomes to improve road safety effectively.

The project spans critical highway stretches, including segments of NH-16 and NH-216 around Vijayawada, marking the first phase of a broader nationwide program intended to span several years. This development heralds a significant leap in adopting technology for public infrastructure and aligns with national safety priorities, as emphasized by Sachidanand Upadhyay, Managing Director of Lord's Mark Industries.
