The Punjab government's recent approval for the introduction of Digital Electronic Ticketing Machines in state-run buses marks a significant step toward modernizing public transport. Led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, this initiative aims to facilitate cashless travel across the state.
Under the new digital system, passengers can purchase tickets using a variety of payment methods, including QR codes, UPI, and cards, while offline payment remains available. This move is expected to diminish reliance on cash, curtail waiting times, and enhance convenience for commuters.
Equipped with GPS, the new machines offer real-time bus tracking, nearby stops information, and live route updates. Women and students will benefit from smart cards for seamless travel. Transport Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar highlighted that this system will bolster transparency and efficiency within the Transport Department.
