In a landmark announcement, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw revealed record budgetary allocations aimed at revitalizing India's rail infrastructure. The impressive funding, announced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, totals Rs 2.93 lakh crore, steering the ministry towards completing pending projects and launching new ones across all states.
Among the key highlights are seven high-speed corridors linking major cities and an East–West Dedicated Freight Corridor connecting Dankuni in West Bengal with Surat in Gujarat. State-specific allocations, such as Rs 24,000 crore for Maharashtra and Rs 20,012 crore for Uttar Pradesh, underscore the massive scale and ambition of these projects. The projects promise numerous economic opportunities by improving regional connectivity.
The allocated funds also empower strategic projects, including potential rail extensions to Uri and Rajouri in Jammu and Kashmir. The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme continues to transform 157 stations nationwide, enhancing rail travel experiences. BJP-ruled states are reportedly cooperating effectively in rolling out these transformative developments.
