Bihar's Chief Minister Nitish Kumar heralded the 2026-27 state budget as a beacon of inclusive and justice-driven development. Presented by State Finance Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav, the budget amounts to Rs 3.47 lakh crore — an increase of over Rs 30,000 crore from the previous year.
The budget's ambitions are set on achieving a formidable growth rate of 14.9%, providing job opportunities to one crore youth by 2030, and empowering women with financial assistance for employment. The budget prioritizes sectors like agriculture, entrepreneurship, youth employment, and women's empowerment, reflecting a commitment to overall social progress.
While the budget has received praise for accelerating Bihar's economic advancement, it also faced criticism. Senior RJD leader Bhai Virendra accused the government of repackaging old schemes from past administrations and neglecting pressing issues such as inflation and unemployment.
