West Asia Conflict: Impact on Aviation Operations

The escalating conflict in West Asia involving the US, Israel, and Iran is causing significant disruptions to airline operations in the region. The Indian civil aviation ministry is closely monitoring the situation, implementing measures in coordination with stakeholders to manage financial implications and ensure passenger safety.

The West Asia conflict's financial impact on flight operations is under scrutiny, with the civil aviation ministry working with airlines to address challenges. The conflict, involving the US, Israel, and Iran since February 28, has disrupted air corridors, significantly affecting airlines serving the region.

Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol informed the Rajya Sabha that the ministry is vigilantly monitoring the situation. Measures are being adopted in collaboration with stakeholders to mitigate financial repercussions and ensure that airfare remains reasonable without undue hikes.

The DGCA has established a comprehensive framework for monitoring high-risk airspace, issuing advisories and conducting real-time risk assessments. Notably, about 721 flights were operated with substantial passenger traffic. The Indian Mission has facilitated transit for over 3,500 people through Saudi Arabia, with diplomatic efforts easing passage and addressing emergency situations.
