Tensions Soar: Pakistan Extends Airspace Ban on Indian Flights

Pakistan has extended the ban on Indian aircraft from using its airspace until May 24, 2026. The closure, initiated after the Pahalgam terror attack, has caused significant financial losses to Indian airlines accustomed to using Pakistani airspace for Gulf-bound flights.

Pakistan has prolonged its airspace closure to Indian aircraft for an additional month, continuing a restriction imposed since April 2025. The Pakistan Airports Authority confirmed that all Indian-registered, leased, commercial, and military aircraft would be barred until May 24, 2026.

This measure, initiated amid heightened tensions following the Pahalgam terror attack, has been a significant setback for Indian airlines, financially impacting operations that frequently relied on Pakistani airspace for routes to the Gulf region.

While Pakistan denies any involvement in the attacks that prompted the ban, it calls for a thorough investigation. This airspace restriction marks the latest in a series of closures during similar high-tension periods, including during the Kargil conflict and Pulwama crisis.
