Vodafone Idea's Landmark Profit Amid AGR Relief

Vodafone Idea marks its first net profit in six years, reporting Rs 51,970 crore for the March quarter of FY2025-26. The profit is attributed to relief in adjusted gross revenue (AGR) liabilities. The telecom operator's total subscriber base stabilized, with a slight increase in revenue and ARPU.

In a remarkable turnaround, beleaguered telecom operator Vodafone Idea has reported its first net profit in about six years, amounting to Rs 51,970 crore for the March quarter of FY2025-26. The profit is largely due to relief in statutory liabilities, notably the adjusted gross revenue (AGR) dues, according to a company filing on Saturday.

The Department of Telecom confirmed Vodafone Idea’s AGR dues as of December 31, 2025, at Rs 87,695 crore, which were reassessed to Rs 64,046 crore. Subsequently, financial liabilities were adjusted accordingly, contributing to the recorded profit. This adjustment allowed Vodafone Idea not only to clear its AGR obligations but also to stabilize its financial standing.

Despite operational losses of Rs 5,515 crore in the reported quarter, Vodafone Idea showed positive signs of recovery through increased revenue from operations, which rose by 3% during the quarter. The telecom giant noted a stabilized customer base with a total of 19.28 crore subscribers and a notable 8.3% year-on-year increase in average revenue per user (ARPU), marking a significant industry achievement.
