In a vigorous critique, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge lambasted Prime Minister Narendra Modi's administration for the recent fuel price hikes, which he claims are burdening citizens across all sectors. Alleging government profiteering, Kharge questioned why relief was not provided when global crude oil prices fell.
Kharge noted that despite the current crude oil price dipping below USD 99 per barrel, petrol and diesel prices have surged, adversely affecting inflation and employment across India. He characterized the rise as a 'slow poisoning' tactic, designed to economically harm the poor.
Warning of inflation's impact on various sectors, Kharge demanded to know who benefits from what he described as 'daily robbery'. He also criticized the lack of governmental attention on urgent economic issues, calling for accountability and immediate relief for the public.
