In a groundbreaking move, Indian universities and higher education institutions will now be allowed to offer admissions twice a year, akin to foreign universities, as endorsed by the University Grants Commission (UGC) chief, Jagadesh Kumar.

This system will commence from the 2024-25 academic session with two admission cycles in July-August and January-February. 'Biannual admissions will benefit students who face delays due to board results, health issues, or personal reasons,' Kumar told PTI.

Moreover, industries can conduct campus recruitment twice annually, enhancing employment opportunities for graduates. Kumar emphasized that the biannual system would facilitate effective resource distribution within HEIs, and align Indian institutions with global standards. However, he clarified that adopting this system would not be mandatory, offering flexibility for HEIs with sufficient infrastructure and faculty.
