NEET Aspirants Seek Rahul Gandhi's Support Amid Examination Irregularities

A group of NEET aspirants, accompanied by their parents, met Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to request re-examination due to alleged irregularities. Gandhi assured his support, criticizing the BJP for educational mismanagement. The Ministry of Education is awaiting a police report to decide further action.

A group of NEET aspirants, along with their parents, met senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday amid ongoing controversy over alleged irregularities in NEET-UG 2024.

Meeting at Gandhi’s residence at 10, Janpath, the students sought support for a re-examination of the MBBS qualifying paper. Gandhi met 15-20 aspirants minutes after a press conference on the issue.

“We had a satisfying meeting with Rahul ji. He understood the pain of our children,” a parent remarked post-interaction with the Congress MP.

“We are demanding re-examination of the NEET-UG paper. Rahul Sir heard our request and assured that he will make all possible efforts for our cause,” a student said.

The aspirants were supported by NSUI president Varun Choudhary, who organized the meeting.

Reports of irregularities and paper leaks at test centers in Bihar and Gujarat have spurred students' demands for a fresh examination by an entity other than the National Testing Agency (NTA). The Ministry of Education recently canceled UGC-NET due to compromised examination integrity.

Launching a scathing attack on the Centre, Gandhi blamed BJP and RSS for the recurrent paper leaks, calling for systemic change.

“It’s said Prime Minister Narendra Modi stopped the Ukraine-Russia and Israel-Gaza wars, but he’s either unable or unwilling to stop exam paper leaks,” said Gandhi.

Gandhi further alleged Modi has “psychologically collapsed” post-elections and is struggling to govern. He assured the Opposition would raise the issue in Parliament, pressuring the government to act.

The Ministry of Education awaits a report from Bihar Police's Economic Offences Unit regarding the NEET conduct in Patna and has summoned NTA DG Subodh Kumar Singh for further discussions.
