A private university in Meghalaya, accused by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of exacerbating Guwahati's waterlogging issues, has refuted the claims. The University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) stated its campus contributes only a 'minuscule portion' of water flowing to areas such as Jorabat.
In a statement, USTM highlighted that all constructions on its campus were carried out with the necessary permissions from the Meghalaya government. It also emphasized its efforts in sustainability, including rainwater harvesting, groundwater recharging, and solar power generation.
The university responded to the CM's remarks about halting student and staff activities, noting that over 6,000 students and 1,500 faculty members from across Northeast India, including a significant number from Assam, are part of USTM.
