In an unprecedented initiative, the Samagra Shiksha Kerala program is offering education to a 12-year-old bedridden girl from the Cholanaikkan tribe in Kerala's Malappuram district. The program has developed 30 audio-visual texts in the tribe's language to facilitate learning.
After the tragic loss of her father in a wild elephant attack, Meenakshi and her family were moved from the forest to a guest house. Despite her condition, the state education department is ensuring her education continues with weekly visits from program officers.
This approach highlights Kerala's commitment to inclusive education, particularly for marginalized tribal communities. The initiative underscores how language-specific educational materials can bridge gaps in accessing quality education.
