Cross-Border Tensions Lead to School Closures in Punjab's Border Districts

In response to military tensions between India and Pakistan, schools in six border districts of Punjab, India have closed. The closures follow India's missile strikes targeting nine terror sites in Pakistan as retaliation for a recent attack. Local authorities have issued orders for school closures in these districts.

In the wake of escalating military tensions between India and Pakistan, educational institutions across six border districts of Punjab, India, were shuttered on Thursday, according to local officials.

The districts affected include Ferozepur, Pathankot, Fazilka, Amritsar, Gurdaspur, and Tarn Taran. This decision came on the heels of India's military action, which involved missile strikes early on Wednesday against terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The strikes focused on locations such as the Jaish-e-Mohammad stronghold in Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba's base in Muridke, conducted in retaliation for the deadly April 22 attack in Kashmir's Pahalgam.

Specifically, the Tarn Taran deputy commissioner mandated that schools remain closed from May 8 to 11. Ferozepur's schools have been ordered shut for 72 hours pending new directives, while closures in Fazilka will continue until further notice.
