China's Welcome Mat for Overseas Student Returnees Amid Shrinking Opportunities Abroad
China is assisting overseas-educated students returning amid diminishing visa and job prospects abroad. A national platform helps them find jobs or start businesses, influenced by increasing returnee numbers. Despite China's economic challenges, returning students, especially in technology, remain crucial. Visa restrictions elsewhere further drive this trend.

China is witnessing a significant return of students who studied abroad as international visa and employment opportunities dwindle. The Chinese government has launched a dedicated platform to aid these returnees in securing jobs and initiating business ventures.
The Ministry of Education disclosed that approximately 4.95 lakh students returned in 2024, marking a 19.1% rise from the previous year. Experts, like Zheng Jinlian from the Centre for China and Globalisation, anticipate this upward trend to persist.
Despite domestic economic hurdles, China's prospects appear more favorable than other regions. With tightened international visa policies, particularly in the US, China's initiative seems timely to harness the potential of its returning talent.
