In a move aimed at enhancing tourism beyond its renowned beaches, the Goa government is drafting a 'Hinterland Tourism Policy' to boost visits to the state's interior regions. Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte made this announcement in the legislative assembly on Wednesday, assuring inclusivity and balance in the policy-making process.
Responding to BJP legislator Dr Chandrakant Shetye, Khaunte emphasized that the policy would incorporate feedback from all relevant stakeholders and assembly members. The initiative includes the development of tourism circuits as part of the Swadesh Darshan 2.0 scheme, covering areas from Porvorim to Harvalem.
Highlighting the necessity for infrastructural enhancements, the minister pointed to existing facilities in North Goa's Mayem as an example of the potential the hinterland holds. Opposition Leader Yuri Alemao cautioned against the exploitation of village land under the guise of tourism development.
