Nine Children Killed in Wall Collapse During Madhya Pradesh Religious Event

Nine children tragically lost their lives, and two others sustained injuries when a wall of a dilapidated house collapsed in Madhya Pradesh's Sagar district on Sunday morning.

The incident occurred during a religious event near a temple in Shahpur village, following heavy rains. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the incident, calling it 'heart-breaking' in a social media post. He announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav also announced Rs 4 lakh assistance per deceased child and suspended the city's chief municipal officer and a sub-engineer for negligence. Authorities are now directed to identify and address dilapidated buildings statewide to prevent such tragedies.
