Trinamool Congress MP Saayoni Ghosh on Monday accused the BJP and its affiliates of failing to provide sufficient fodder and protect cows from the lumpy cow disease.
During a debate on the Ministry of Fishing, Animal Husbandry, and Dairy's grants, Ghosh emphasized the struggles of the rural poor who rely on livestock. She criticized the BJP for the rising costs of cattle and poultry feed, which have led to farmers' suicides.
Ghosh highlighted that 32.7 lakh cattle were infected with the lumpy cow disease, resulting in 2.4 lakh deaths. Despite India’s top position in milk production, she pointed out that gaps in government measures have led to increased milk prices and imports. She also raised the issue of malnourished children due to the lack of eggs in mid-day meals.
