Mumbai Fisherman Defrauded in Digital Payment Scam

A fisherman in Mumbai lost Rs 96,870 after scammers posed as executives from an online streaming service and tricked him into logging his details into a digital payment app, promising to refund a previous recharge amount. A case has been registered, and investigations are ongoing.

A 42-year-old Mumbai fisherman was defrauded of Rs 96,870 by scammers posing as customer care executives from an online streaming platform, according to police reports on Monday.

The victim, Yogesh Kharde, had initially contacted what he believed to be the streaming platform's customer care number after failing to access the service despite a recharge of Rs 899.

A woman posing as a senior executive instructed Kharde to enter his details into a digital payment app, promising a refund. Soon after, Rs 96,870 was deducted from his account. A case has been filed, and further investigations are in progress.
