A tragic incident unfolded in the winegrowing town of Kroev on the Mosel River, where part of a hotel collapsed, resulting in one confirmed death and eight individuals trapped in the debris, according to police reports on Wednesday.
The collapse occurred at approximately 11 p.m. on Tuesday, trapping nine out of the fourteen occupants of the hotel. While five people managed to escape unharmed, emergency services have been communicating with some of the trapped individuals, including those with serious injuries.
Authorities swiftly evacuated 31 residents from the immediate vicinity of the collapsed building. The cause of the collapse remains unclear. Police described the rescue operation as extremely challenging, involving approximately 250 emergency workers, drone specialists, and rescue dogs.
