At the D23 Expo in Anaheim on Sunday night, Miley Cyrus was celebrated as the youngest-ever Disney Legend, an accolade for individuals profoundly impacting the Disney legacy. This marks a significant milestone in Cyrus's career, which began with her role as Hannah Montana, according to Variety.
The ceremony featured Lainey Wilson performing a vibrant rendition of 'Hannah Montana' hit, 'The Best of Both Worlds,' followed by a tribute to Cyrus for her authenticity and bravery. "Miley, thank you for never being afraid to step outside the box and always staying true to yourself," Wilson said.
During her acceptance speech, Cyrus candidly addressed the fears and challenges accompanying success. "I'm gonna let everybody get on a little Disney Legend secret. Legends get scared, too. But we do it anyway, and all of you can do that every single day," she said, as per Variety.
Reflecting humorously on her Disney journey, Cyrus recalled Disney's decision to hire her in 2005. "Disney was rebuilding the company. That's why they hired Bob Iger, and me," she joked.
Cyrus dedicated the award to Hannah Montana and her loyal fans. "This award is dedicated to Hannah and all her amazing fans who made my dream a reality. To quote her, 'This is the life.'"
The event also honored costume designer Colleen Atwood, actress Angela Bassett, Disney Parks' Martha Blanding, and filmmaker James Cameron, among others.
Disney's Legends awards recognize significant contributors to the company's legacy. Cyrus's association with Disney began with 'Hannah Montana,' which became a cultural phenomenon and led to a world tour, feature film, and record-breaking TV ratings.
Cyrus voiced Penny in Disney's 'Bolt' and earned a Golden Globe nomination for her song from the film. Despite evolving with hits like 'We Can't Stop' and 'Wrecking Ball,' she returned to Disney with the 2023 Disney+ special, 'Endless Summer Vacation (Backyard Sessions).' (ANI)
