Modi has consistently set records with his Independence Day addresses since 2014, contrasting with significantly shorter speeches by past prime ministers.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi made history on Thursday by delivering a 98-minute long speech from the ramparts of the historic Red Fort on Independence Day. This address was his longest yet, surpassing his previous record of 96 minutes set in 2016.

Modi's Independence Day speeches have consistently averaged at 82 minutes, making them the lengthiest by any Prime Minister in India's history. His shortest speech was delivered in 2017, lasting just 56 minutes.

On the 78th Independence Day, Modi marked his 11th address as Prime Minister, also becoming the leader to hoist the tricolour and deliver a speech the third highest number of times. His speeches have set a stark contrast to those of former PMs, such as Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi, with some of the shortest on record.
