Supporters of arch-rivals East Bengal and Mohun Bagan gathered near Salt Lake stadium in Kolkata on Sunday evening in a show of solidarity to protest the alleged rape and murder of a doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

The gathering took place as a Durand Cup match between the two clubs was canceled amid law and order concerns. In an exceptional display of unity, fans of both teams held each other's flags and demanded justice for the victim's family, with a significant police presence ensuring the situation remained under control. Supporters of Mohammedan SC also joined the protests shortly afterward.

Prominent actor Usashi Chakraborty and theatre personality Sourav Palodhi were spotted among the protesters, wearing the jerseys of their favorite clubs. The protest spilled onto the busy EM Bypass, causing traffic disruption, which led to a high-voltage drama as police chased and detained some agitators. Despite initial police success in dispersing the crowd, the protesters regrouped and continued their demonstration.
