What ties all movies in the Maddock Films horror comedy universe together is the representation of social fallacies, with Sarkata, the newest villain in 'Stree 2', symbolizing all that is wrong with patriarchy, said writer Niren Bhatt.
The Bhavanagar-born screenwriter, who left a high-paying corporate job for showbiz in 2007, expressed delight at the response to 'Stree 2', acknowledging that the numbers are "a bit crazy." The much-awaited sequel to 2018's 'Stree' premiered on August 15 and is nearing the Rs 500 crore mark globally.
Bhatt, who also penned other successful films in the franchise like 'Bhediya' and 'Munjya', noted that these characters reflect societal issues. "Some people say there's too much humor or too little horror, but these aren't traditional horror films. Our ghosts are societal fallacies, with Sarkata being the most warped form of patriarchy," the writer told PTI in an interview.
