Odisha's Ambitious Goshala Initiative: Boosting Cattle Welfare

The BJP government in Odisha has announced an ambitious plan to establish over 200 new 'goshalas' within the next five years. In an ambitious move, the BJP-led Odisha government has committed to establishing over 200 'goshalas' in the next five years, offering up to 90% subsidy to private entities. State minister Gokulananda Mallik presented this plan during the assembly session on Wednesday.

During the Question Hour, Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Minister Mallik highlighted the BJP's election manifesto promise to open new goshalas, urging all 147 MLAs to set up at least one goshala each in their constituencies.

The government has implemented various financial initiatives, including a food subsidy of Rs 54 per day per cattle and a one-time capital grant of up to Rs 52 lakh, to encourage the establishment of goshalas. Official sources revealed that the state harbors around 1.52 lakh stray cattle, emphasizing the need for this initiative to improve their living conditions.
